Don't let making mistakes knock your confidence. As you may have noticed in today's reading there were 3 mistakes, and it was written by a native
speaker whose job it is to write.

Practice, experiment, and practice. A student who is learning English should experiment with the language as much as possible. Do not be afraid to speak it even if it is not perfect! |

Hi Alferas,
I agree. Don't just hope. You have to become an active learner. Unfortunately it's something that school doesn't prepare us for, but I think it is actually the way we naturally learn things.

Hi CuteSnoowee,
What are you doing to overcome your problems? Hi Alferas, Not a political issue, it's just human nature. As soon as anyone takes on the role of "teacher" they become a figure of authority, and figures of authority are often feared, so learning = fear. It's a shame really.

Hi lynne,
In my opinion, language is born in the environment. Everyone know that whatever your parents are which country, speak which language, you speak which of the place you are stay in when you are a child. And I know a report: a child who was bring up by the wolves. He can't speak, can't walk, howling like wolves...... Language is acquired behavior. What makes a good student? Make yourself in the language environment... |

Hi Ningning,
Children have it easy. Research shows that bilingual children separate their language from the age of two, and current research even suggests they may separate them from the beginning. I think the adult brain isn't quite so flexible, but as long as there is a perceived need to learn a language, we can overcome this. Just convince your brain that it's really important to learn English and it will respond. # PS - Put yourself in the environment of the target language.

Hi Ningning, I heard from somewhere that you can train yourself to think in English, in that way, you are able to respond to English quicker. I guess this will
also help you to be in an English environment. It takes a lot of effort though. I've tried for a few times but end up giving up. My native language loves
to jump into my head and think for me. Hehe maybe I should try again.

I think that student who really wants to learn a foreign language must study all the time with a teachers and without him. All the time it needs to repear
words, translate a unkown article etc. It is more important because it is a very long competetive period on your life.
