Posts: 58 14/06/08 12:36 PM	Student should want to learn! If you have interest, then you're ok. And maybe be ready to sacrify a lot of time too. And have courage to do mistakes, that's most important thing with any language! If you don't try then you never learn to use it.

Be Nice Posts: 7 26/06/08 2:22 PM	I think we should start with the end in mind. It's visualizing what you can do and what you'll be when you become good in English. Like for me, I desire to be a good presentor. Visualizing that I am very good in speaking, I'm very motivated to do everything to achieve that. Then planning and implementation is next wherein the step by step to achieve that comes in like reading self help books, practicing speaking English, watching English movies and the like. Also, we should identify or know what our weaknesses are so we'll know how to overcome them.

Additionally, students should watch English television programs: movies, documentaries, or anything in English so they can practice listening skill.

Super Member Posts: 850 07/07/08 1:41 PM	Persistence and motivation are the important qualities of a good student. Student should not stop learning until they archive the goal of proficiency. My motivation behind my learning is survival, it is crucial for me to have a good knowledge of the language to work in the US. Also, I have experienced that we should try to climb one step at a time, intermission in the learning process will cause us to go down two step so it's important for us to continue learning till we are proficient.

It is important to have the personal drive to study and know when to apply a language while learning it, otherwise there might not be much worth in taking it, with the exception of situations where you absolutely must know the language in order to get by. With consistency and time, any student can learn, so it is also important to realize that learning to speak in an entirely different tongue is, in fact, going to take a lot of effort, but is ultimately rewarding in the end.

A good student too is patient, like in learning English as their second language. If a student is willing to be good they study with out being told, they sacrifice having a good time to study, they work hard to improve. Others may have an impression that studying is boring but its not, it all depends on the student and lastly in all the sacrifices a good reward will be achieved.

They, with some very limited studies, have had to emigrate to a foreign country and learning a new language. The need to speak a foreign language is a very important factor to be particularly motivated in their learning and therefore be a good student. In my case I'm afraid this enthusiasm fade away because I have tried to speak English several times unsuccessfully . It's like when someone wants to quit smoking and failed in the attempt. Anyway, never mind, I still think it was worth a try.
