Interesting question EL. Actually sign language is not universal. There are hundreds of different sign languages in use around the world.
There is a pretty comprehensive list of sign languages in use on Wikipedia:- en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lis..._languages As to your examples, these are more like body language, and that can differ too. For example I believe that in China widening your eyes indicates anger, whereas in the West it portrays shock. The most dangerous body language tends to use the hands or fingers though. Did you know that showing the index and middle finger in a V with the back of the hand facing away from you is considered extremely rude in the UK? ----------------------- My question is - Should English become the official international language of the world? |

Improving your listening skills comes down to practise. The good news is that there are lots of resources out there thanks to technology, so there's no excuse.
The best thing to do is expose your ears to broadcasts and audio material from different countries, that way you get used to different accents and dialects. English ResourcesEnglish language TV and Radio My question:- Should English speaking people be encouraged to learn a second language? |

I think self-owned mobile should be offed since it may distract the work you might have been doing but sometimes the emergency might fall on, in which mobile is important I guess.

My answer:-
I use music all the time to relieve stress. Today I've been listening to sad songs though. For example Coldplay's "Fix you". If I don't have music to listen to I go for a long walk in the countryside. My question:- Why do some people think that violence is the answer? |

I think, either they have no alternatives or they lack education. They may have pain in the previous years of their lifes or they live for viloence because it is the way of living. It may be their fight or flight response of their body due to rise in high adrenaline

My answer:-
I don't think humans have enough control of themselves to live in peace. Tolerance is essential for the survival of the species, by tolerance I don't mean changing everyone's beliefs and culture to match yours. I means "You do it your way, and I'll do it mine." We shouldn't try to erase the differences between cultures. I don't want the world to be one big melting pot - 'Vive la differance' I say! Personally I try to accept any differences with humour and grace, sometimes I even agree and take it on board myself, but I alwo acknowledge that some lines can never be crossed, some doors never opened, some arguments never settled, and some wounds never healed. My question:- How can we as individuals create a fairer world? |

I remembered saying " Kindness is contagious, spread it. " I think, this fits in making fairer world, I suppose.
A fairness is somthing like a balance, I think. A fair to the individual, sometimes, is a fair to the community or a group. As the individual learns to exist with differences, faireness seems to be conspicious to the other individuals. But, I would say, "if I was pricked and I didn't feel hurt", this is abnormal!! Giving equal opportunites, deleting race discrimination, spreading kindness in the world, helping people each other toward the goals which they have individually, make them learn to work in team or group, understanding each other's feelings and drawbacks, giving feedbacks to support progresses they make are some of things I can think of making fairer situations and ofcourse the world is there. I think that the truth is in the words human kind. I believe most people are kind, unfortunately it's the cruel people who get the column inches.

Most of the time I think more about my bad deeds than my good ones.
Well...Let's see. I've listened patiently to one of my schoolmates and supported her when she felt terribly down because she had lost two people she loved in the same week (They both died). It was the first time I wasn't involved in a conversation: - To complain, what I do all the time - To speak about myself and ONLY myself, which I usually cannot help. - To get something in return, but the satisfaction to realize I was able to cheer up someone. Another question: how far can you sacrifice yourself for the one you love the most? I mean if a bad spirit (not me, hey!) asked you to choose between suffering (even physically and very much) or letting the one you care suffer in your place, would you REALLY be able to sacrify to such a point of pain? (It must seem very sadistic of me but I'm always wondering if a human being is capable of loving someone else more than him/herself).
