Hi,
Thanks for reading this.
You might want to read the Chat and Forum rules and guidelines too.
The forum is free. Yes, completely free. I won't suddenly send you an invoice.
Anyone can view most of the forum.
Anyone can become a member, but when you first join the number of posts and replies you can make is limited. Over time (and use) this level increases. This is to prevent spammers, shoe salesmen, and other naughty people.
Only members can post messages, rate topics by giving Kudos (we like Kudos) and use the Live Chat Room - text only.
To join the Live Chat Room in the forum you need to have a Java platform installed on your computer. I use Java2 from Sun.
If you want to arrange to meet up with other learners there's a section "English for Friendship" where you can leave your contact details.
I only do word for word correction on the posts in the Practice, Games and Let's Learn sections. You will also notice I only correct posts that directly relate to the question or topic of the lesson. When I go on holiday these forums will be locked. In other parts of the forum I just give feedback where I think it's necessary.
Here are the levels of membership:-
Send me a private message if you think you deserve to have your limits increased.
In order to make sure everyone gets the attention they deserve:-
If you post too often in the parts of the forum marked "one post a day" or "one post a week" you will have your account limited or suspended. Sorry, but that's the only way I can curb some people's "enthusiasm".
The Chat Room - You're welcome to chat to each other in the chat room at any time, but you must follow the rules of the forum. Anyone who breaks the rules will have their account deleted and will be banned from all parts of the forum.
The English Practice forum - Each lesson links to a lesson on the Learn English Online web site. Read the other posts and corrections to see if you can avoid making the same mistakes. Keep on topic and please only one post a day and post once per lesson in this section.
You will see that access to certain parts of the forum is restricted, as your membership level increases you will be able to access more forums and post more. Be warned, your membership level will go down if you are inactive for a while.
The Questions forum - You will gain access to this forum when you have been an active member for a while. You can ask urgent questions here. I will reply (eventually). Please only post one question a day and make sure that you've checked the sites to see if I've already answered it.
Let's Learn forum - You will gain access to this forum when you have been an active member for a while. Please only post one post per week.
There are lots of topics, find one that interests you and post there. I will reply, but please post in the correct part of the forum, otherwise your post will be moved and in some cases Sam eats it.
Certain sections are allocated to volunteer helpers or teachers. Be nice to these people - give them kudos - they help to keep the forum running. Oh and I'm always looking for other people to help. Even if it's only for an hour a week.
You may see me on-line, it doesn't actually mean I'm in the forum though, sometimes I just forget to log off.
If your post goes walkabout it means you probably posted it in the wrong part of the forum and Sam
tidied it up. You'll usually find a clue to where it is, if not just ask
me.
Try to write in a legible font and colour, otherwise I might not be able to read your post - ask my optician. Using bright green is not clever - I don't mind a bit of artistic license, but stick to dark colours.
And finally, please do not post in all CAPITALS.
It means you are
shouting, and shouting is rude, so if you shout Sam will eat it .
