Moderator Super Member Posts: 4649 04/02/12 9:02 AM	I suppose because if you invite friends over on your birthday, it's traditional too have a cake. It's sort of expanding that out to your workplace. There's no tradition of even celebrating birthdays in Nepal (many people don't even know when their birthday is). Young people in the cities are catching on though, so sometimes you do see birthday parties and birthday cakes, but it doesn't seem to have spread to the office yet. Happy birthday Richard. Are you celebrating in any extra special way tomorrow?

Moderator Super Member Posts: 706 06/02/12 1:35 PM	Thank you all for your birthday wishes, it started snowing on Saturday so when I woke up yesterday there was about 5" of snow on the ground, went out and cleared the snow off the driveway, didn't build a snowman as the snow was too fine and wouldn't stick together. My wife cooked me a meal and we had a bottle of bubbly, went out in the evening to the bowls club on the bus, I'm in the office on a Sunday night so I'm in charge, not many people turned up but at least I got a game.

Super Member Posts: 38321 07/02/12 11:58 AM Your Teacher	Sounds like you had a nice day. Shame the snow wasn't sticky though. I'm ashamed to say I never work on my birthday. When I had a "proper" job I always wrangled it that I would be on holiday that day. I even try to make sure hubby doesn't work on his birthday (which drives him nuts). I think it's because I often used to start school after the summer hols on or near my birthday, it must have traumatised me.

My last birthday, I had to work in the evening and it was the middle of the week. It didn't help that I was working hard at that point so by the weekend I didn't even have the energy to arranging something for a belated celebration. It always helps when birthdays fall on weekends.

I love rich fruit cake and sometimes make one for Christmas with lashings of brandy to help it keep. Not that it usually lasts very long....
