I saw this experiment on TV recently. The poor kids! It was torture.
Hermine, it's a famous test, to test the ability to delay or defer gratification. Basically a child is told they can have one marshmallow, but if they wait 20 minutes they can have two. The children sit in a room by themselves with one marshmallow on their plate. Of course some children can't wait and gobble the marshmallow, while others sit patiently and wait to have two. In previous experiments, children who'd taken part in this test were tracked over the years. The children that had been able to wait for two marshmallows scored higher on tests, did better in school, and surpassed the gobblers in many ways. In other words, teaching our children impulse control and delayed gratification is important. |

yeah, I've also heard of this famous experiment. Very funny indeed~ But I also believe that there will be some successers from the gobblers because they
get their first barrel of gold first and then they might think of others ways to get another not just waiting in pains and as for the patient ones, their
chances of becoming successful is larger, for perseverance in all times stands out in terms of success.

Well, when it comes to be able to have fun or enjoy communicating in English, I've no choice but be patient because it doesn't exist any
Pick-up-English-quickly marshmallow yet. If so I'll probably not wait for eating it!

Hi xeb,
I think it was you who put that sketch in the forum. Yesterday I saw it with other kids but by far not so well shown. My kids and I were very exited to watch that scene but were disappointed. |

Hi Hermine,
Do you mean that watching again this video was disappointing? I didn't get what you mean by "not so well shown". BTW when I posted it, I forgot to tell you that subtitles are available in 17 languages on the website where I picked up the video, here is the address, http://www.ted.com/talks/lang/eng/joachim_de_posada_says_don_t_eat_the_marshmallow_yet.html |

Hi xeb,
I meant your record is much better than the one I`ve just seen. According to the subtitles, the kids`faces said everything. |

Yep, I agree, children's reactions and emotions speak by themselves.

Hmm, we tend to say "speak for themselves".
