Hi,
nice to meet you. I would rather say: Students must read a lot of books and try to speak English every day. Cf. Death was an everyday occurrence during the Civil War. - everyday as adjective |

I think a student should take initiative when learning English. Language needs to be practiced by speaking it and writing it. There is only so much a teacher
can provide for the student like practice tips, corrections, tests, information.

A good student always give proper time to his study and if a student who wants to learn english and he does not want to go any institution then he should read
some basic kinds of books and then start reading, slowly and steadily he will learn english.

I think the best way to learn language is to talk with its native speaker, without which language learning can be truly laborious process.Talking with native
speaker gives us a quick access to the vocabulary of that language and at the same time it introduces our ears to the sound of that language.

I think, first of all a student should WANT to learn English (this desire must be very strong)
the second is a student should have a PLAN of studying and the third is a student should have possibilities. uff... it's very hard to me to write in English yet... my sentences are so easy and flat...
but I WANT to learn English:) |

A language learner should always think positive. Should be focused on her language learning. She should also play a vital role in language learning such as
helping herself through her own efforts and not just rely on the teacher.

Hi!
This is an interesting question and it's important to know the answer for it. I don't have an answer but I've got a few opinions of it. Anyway, some students always get the best result in the tests and exams and some of the students fail almost every test they've been taken, right? Why is so that then? Is it that some of us have a better brain function or is it that some of us have better memory which is included to the brain functions, perhaps it's because of the brain function. However, we always say that "she is a good student because she's a good memory" or " She had been reading for weeks before an exam" and we assume that these are the factor of getting the best result. It might be right, but does an individual understand or remember anything after hard reading and studying to the test which is almost over achieving. And still meanwhile somebody does everything exactly perfect and right in practise without no reading or studying of some subject. Can student who is a good in English and always gets 'A' gets successfully result in practise as keeping presentation..yet it is beyond of my knowledge. Hope you get a point what I'm saying and I hope that someone agree or disagree;) I'm an average student and I usually get 3, sometimes 5 or 1 (scale 1-5). Usually I try to maintain my average of 3:) Learning is more than get succeed in the test. It is that the student understand more than she had read. Student has to see the whole picture and she/he has to have a red line that leads to the succeed. |

I taught English in traditional ways for a long time, and I met people with lots of certificates, but they couldn't hold a conversation with me. I've
also met people who speak English fluently and have never sat an English test in their life, and wouldn't know an adjective or a preposition if it came up
and bit them.

Lynne, this story sounds like a fairy tale. Still, I doubt they can write one sentence correctly (like me
I think such people are exeptions but on the other hand I feel sorry for whom have a certificate and anyway their English is poor. ..if it came up and bit them. Lynne I need your help, because I haven`t any idea what would it be. |

Hi Hermine,
I'll try to explain that to you. It might mean that somebody had been asked that what is an adjective or preposition. |

And then an adjective and preposition went to "talk" (came up)with someone and then they bit(bite, bit) him/her...

Yes, it's a joke. We often say "he wouldn't recognise something if it bit him".

At first I want to tell you a story:
Recently I met a mother at school. She is from Hungary and is living here for years. Her husband is a doctor and she is surely a very fine Lady but her German is terrible. She told me anything about her kids and I had difficulties to follow her. At the begin our conversation I tried to correct her by saying the right word but she wasn`t deligehted to hear it, so I let it be. I wasn`t neither interrested to show her how good my English is nor to upset her. What I want to say is: Allow to correct you by someone is better than you. It doesn`t matter how old you are. See it more positive you will not lose your self-confident. |
